Entry: "Hello to all, After taking a dip in warm springs at Mataranka it was time to cool off with another kind of spring at a place called Daly Waters. We set up camp beside a famous icon, but some might say a kind of quirky Daly Waters Pub. The historic pub was licensed in 1938 to service passengers and crew at the nearby airfield. The airfield itself has the distinction of being Australia's first international airfield, used as a refuelling stop for Qantas international flights flying through Darwin and on to Singapore. The pub has become famous for its walls, which host an amazing collection of memorabilia, everything from old war items to bras and undies hanging from the ceiling. Outside the pub there is even more to look at, including an old helicopter sitting on a building across the street, to old car number plates and grills etc. The other reason for people to stay here in the middle of nowhere is the "Beef n Barra" meals served up almost every night with a cool ale or two! There is one other reason why this pub has become famous, and it's for the character called the Chicken Man.
